There was something in my pidge1;
They'd been telling me you'll have to go:
I'd hoped they'd forgotten,
But now I just do not know

What on earth I will do -
I think I've lost my gown2 too!

And now I've got a Warden's Collection3
And an essay for my tute4 to write,
And all the things that I should have done before
Will have to wait for another night!

When I looked into my bag,
There were piles of work I had not done -
Yes, in my confusion,
I'd been having fun!

I was out with my friends,
And now my mis'ry never ends -

Yes, now I've got a Warden's Collection,
And an essay for my tute to write,
And all the things that I should have done before
Will have to wait for another night!

There were items on my list
Like getting all my sub-fusc5 clean;
Completing all my Greek prep
plus some extra to look keen (ha!)

But that was in my dreams
My life is just ripped at the seams!

'Cos now I've got a Warden's Collection,
And an essay for my tute to write,
And all the things that I should have done before
Will have to wait for another night!

Notes:

1. pidge : pigeon-hole in college mail room - both internal messages and external mail get placed here.
2. gown : black thing with armholes, weird flaps and streamers, which must be worn for formal academic events, and some dinners. See also sub-fusc, below.
3. Warden's Collection : yearly meeting with the head of college to discuss one's academic progress. Gown required.
4. tute : tutorial; meeting with tutor where one's latest essay is read out and ripped to shreds.
5. sub-fusc : formal wear, worn under gown for formal occasions, esp. University exams.
